How the readiness review works
Every review is run by a senior consultant who spends the time in the areas we know make commercial impact. The whole thing runs in three steps.
01
Request your review
Tell us about your business and where to reach you, and we review everything from the outside looking in. The review runs on public access only, so there is no sensitive data to share and nothing to set up.
02
We interpret your store
We work through the store with the fanatical discipline we have practised since 2008, interpreting it as the search engines, crawlers, and shopping agents will, and judging every finding on what wins and keeps customers.
03
Live readiness review
We present the findings back to you, virtually or in your office, covering what we found, what it means for your business, and the priority order for commercial impact.
Inside the review
You want the brand recommended when ChatGPT, Gemini, or a shopping agent answers your customer, and that starts with what those systems can read about you today. The review works through every surface they read, and sets you on your way.
Crawl the store as search engines and shopping agents do
Check what every product page declares: price, availability, materials
Test that reviews, delivery, and returns answers are readable by machines
Read the agent-facing files Shopify publishes for your store
Ask the AI assistants what they currently say about your brand
Rank every gap by commercial impact, with the first fix named
A machine can check whether a signal is present, and whether what is present is true about your brand is the judgement half of the review.
“Your customers’ agents will know them deeply, and the review shows how much your store lets those agents know you in return.”

Assistants can only recommend what they can read about you, and most stores give them far less than anyone inside the brand assumes. Until you have seen your store the way they see it, there is nothing to aim at.
Paid acquisition costs rise ten to twenty percent a year, and organic is the only channel that compounds against that, so the earlier the fundamentals are put right, the sooner the curve bends the other way.
The cause is usually internal, teams changing, knowledge leaving, governance slipping as the brand grows, and it shows up as architecture, data, and signals that no longer agree with each other.
Assistants repeat whatever is easiest to find, and for many brands that is an old press page, a stale directory listing, or a description nobody has owned for years. Correcting the record means putting the current truth everywhere the machines look.
Discovery is moving into AI assistants and shopping agents, and nobody can buy the recommendation there. It is earned through the same fundamentals search has always rewarded, and most competitors have not started that work.
Almost nobody has, because the surfaces machines read are invisible in a browser. All of them are public though, which is why we can review a store from the outside with nothing shared and nothing set up.

Why Naughton & Bird
Two decades of e-commerce discipline
We are a Shopify Plus Partner consultancy, working the fundamentals of winning and keeping customers since 2008. The discipline search engines and agents now reward, authoritative, structured, truthful commerce, is the discipline we have always practised.
From mail order to Google to agents, the fundamentals have not changed: acquire quality customers at the best possible price, and keep them. We work with established brands whose reputations are already earned, across the UK, Hong Kong, Dubai, and Australia, and we teach your team as we go, so the capability stays in-house.
