The luck of the Irish

An Irish immigrant from Galway to West Yorkshire in 1938, Brendan James Naughton started our journey of entrepreneurship in the 1950s. A journey which has passed down the generations across seven decades.

In 1952 as the top salesman for Hoover Ltd Brendan discovered his talent for building long-lasting relationships with customers. His Irish charm, quick wit and opportunistic acumen saw him create Naughton & Bird Ltd, an electrical and white goods store in Leeds. By 1962 with 6 stores city-wide and an aftersales & service centre, the journey was well underway.

The 6th store opened in July 1962 with Pat Phoenix, famous for her Coronation Street role as Elsie Tanner. Drawing the crowds and also a fine from the city council for excessive congestion.

The revival

N&B
By late 1969 the retail side of Naughton & Bird was acquired by a high street chain. The credit division of the business continued with Brendan at the helm for 4 decades. The Naughton & Bird name was revived in 2020 following the passing of Brendan aged 90. As a homage to his legacy, kind nature and entrepreneurial spirit, we've returned to help brands achieve success and build loyalty with their consumers.
